It's always Wednesday...

Wednesday is a very busy day around here. We wake up early and the kids go to PE class with a bunch of other homeschoolers, then we come home and do chores, and eat lunch, do schoolwork, play and then it's time for Awanas. The next few weeks, the two oldest go to Awanas at 4:45pm for Awana games practice, then I take Princess at 6:30 for regular Awanas, and pick all three up at 8:30. Whew! So Wednesdays are busy, busy, busy.

So of course, all disasters seem to happen on Wednesday. What happened today? We came back from PE class and I had Genius go inside and open the garage so I can bring in the trashcans (if they are in the garage, then I can take out the trash without Doorbuster bolting after me and into the street). He opens the garage, I bring in the trashcans, and notice water EVERYWHERE. At first I thought it was the washer, but the washer was empty. Then I notice it's the water heater. Water is leaking out of the bottom of the water heater. Yikes.

Makes me very glad I rent! I called the management company so they could call the owner to come out and fix it. Then I call hubby to ask him how to turn off the water to the water heater. He's wondering why I called and asked this. I tell him what is happening and he offers to see if he can come home early. What a sweetie!

Luckily, he showed up about an hour later. We all ate lunch, and I put Doorbuster down for his nap. Then Hubby offered to let me take a nap! How special was that! I never, ever, get to take naps. Someone always finds me and wakes me up. I woke up just in time for hubby to take the kids to Awanas (the two oldest), and then the owner showed up with a shiny, new hot water heater.

After they opened the box, and installed the new water heater, the pilot light wouldn't light. And the top vent wouldn't fit. So they had to head back to the store to get another water heater. The second one was the charm, and they were on their way to return the first water heater and head to their house. I was on my way to go pick up the kids from Awanas.

I was considering joining some homeschool friends of ours to do a science class on Wednesdays, but that might be pushing my luck. I don't know if I need to add anything more to my to-do list for Wednesdays.

  1. This is exactly why I love being a renter! Yes we do want the space that a house provides, but even then I think we will continue to rent for quite some time. Can you imagine the money you'd be out right now if you owned that house! It makes me faint just thinking about it. I love that if anything goes wrong, I just simply call someone else and it's taken care of, without any cost to me (except for any inconvience or time, but that's a small price in comparison). It's especially handy when living onsite (or at least on a property owned by the company Ryan works for). The maintainance does give us a little special attention lol.

  2. Renting a house is the best of both, lol! It did put in perspective some thoughts about house hunting- not only do I need to think about the housebuying costs, but having an emergancy fund for covering emergancy repairs. Luckly enough, hubby can do just about any house repair, aside from windows (and I'm sure if there is a youtube video for that, and we needed it, he'd figure it out pretty quick).
